Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you.
Matthew 7:7
I hope that by now, you’re seeing the power of asking the right questions. In the first two parts, we asked the questions: “how can I _________?” and “who do I need _____________?”
Today, we’ll focus on the third question: Where can I __________________? Again, you need to fill in the rest of the question. For example: where can I find the right person (or the money or other resource) to help me make my trip to Australia a reality? Where can I find the resources I need to make my business more successful? Where can I find my ideal job, house, or soul mate?
You need to ask “where can I __________?” and you also need to go deeper by asking “where else can I ____________?” Your first answer probably won’t give you all the help you need. And the most obvious answer isn’t always the best.
No matter what goal you want to achieve, you’ll need some resources you currently don’t have. If you let that fact stop your progress, you won’t achieve your goal.
It’s easy to make excuses. For instance, “I couldn’t expand my business because I didn’t have the needed capital, the necessary experience, and the key personnel.” Those statements are all excuses. It doesn’t matter what you’re missing; the resources can be found.
I’ve worked with countless people who said, “I would do ___________ but I just don’t have the money/time/contacts.” Although it sometimes made them angry, I always told them that not having money or any other resource is a convenient excuse. The real reason is something different. Typically, it’s not having the confidence or the commitment to succeed. You can find whatever resources you need to accomplish your goal. But you have to look for them, and you must be willing to do whatever is necessary to finish the task.
When you find yourself starting to make excuses about why you can’t accomplish something, stop and ask, “Where can I find the resources to meet this goal?”
The Bible says “seek and you shall find.” Don’t expect the answer to appear at your door by magic. You must actively look. But if you keep asking “where can I”, you will find the answer.
In any moment of decision, the best thing you can do is the right thing, the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing and the worst thing you can do is nothing.
